The history of One KC Voice

One KC Voice grew out of the efforts of the Regionalism Action Committee, a group of residents who took part in the Kauffman Foundation's forums program following the Citistates Report in 2002.

The committee met monthly at the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) for three years to determine how the distinct parts of the region could work together to better address issues. The group eventually proposed creating a regional citizen engagement alliance that would foster a culture of civic engagement in Greater Kansas City.

Representatives from 14 regionally recognized community organizations agreed to form the alliance, and One KC Voice was publicly announced in June 2005. Many of those founding partners still serve on our advisory committee today.

Since then, our projects have encompassed a wide variety of topics, spanned eight counties, and involved thousands of local residents — and our work continues to grow.
